No recovery for the Dutch outgoing holidays in 2014
The amount of domestic holidays will decline slightly while it is expected that the amount of holidays taken abroad will stabalize. In addition, the spending behaviour of the Dutch while on holiday is expected to decline as well. The NBTC-NIPO Research has composed these figures based upon their research on holiday-intention of the Dutch market. During the Trade Day on the 'Vakantiebeurs' (Dutch Holiday Fair) on Tuesday January 14, the outcome of this research has been presented.
Holiday-intention slightly lower compared to last year
The research shows that approximately 72 percent of the Dutch intends to go on a holiday in 2014. Compared to last year, this means a decling of around 1 percent. Of all the Dutch who intent to go on a holiday, the majority of 60 percent has indicated that they intend to travel as often as they did last year. Groups who have indicated to travel less or more balance each other.
Consumer books late and is pricedriven
In 2014 the trend of late bookings will continue. The ever so insecure economic situation is the most important reason for this trend. The Football Worldcup in Brazil will even stregnthen this trend, as experience has taught. The costs of a holiday will remain as important as it used to be. The consumer, just like last year, will actively search for appealing offers and promotions.
Slight deciline domestic travel, stabilization of international travel
There is a slight decline expected where the amount of short and extra holidays are concerned. This occured in 2013 as well. Especially the amount of domestic holidays will be experiencing a negative influence from this trend. In 2013, around 17.5 million holidays were spent in The Netherlands. NBTC-NIPO Research expects that this year the amount of domestic holidays will decline with around 1 percent. In regards to international travel, a stabilization of approximately 18.1 million holidays is expected. Tradtitionally, the Dutch spend their generally long and main holiday abroad. For both domestic as well as international holidays, the spending behaviour will decline slightly.
